One bus, a taxi, a questionable boat and a horse drawn carriage later and we had arrived.
Palm trees stretched to the sky and coconuts littered the sand.
Standing in front of me was paradise.
Surfing Turtle Lodge, located in Poneloya, Nicaragua is one of the most epic hostels you can stumble across.
I stayed in the 18 bed dorm on the second floor and fell asleep and woke up to the sound of waves crashing outside.
The hostel has several showers and bathrooms for guest use, two bars, a kitchen, yoga classes, surf boards for rent, a yoga deck and lounge chairs right on the ocean.
Without question, the best part about Surfing Turtle Lodge is that you’re in the middle of nowhere, with nothing to do and nobody to see.
There is nothing to do but relax, make new friends, play beach volleyball and sip on Cuba Libres and that’s the beauty of it.
Each day is another epic day in paradise, where the ocean meets the coast and you discover the true beauty of this world.
In the “backyard” you’ll find a turtle hatchery, the place where Surfing Turtle keeps turtle eggs safe before they hatch. Guests are even allowed to partake in helping the newborn turtles get form the hatchery to the ocean (travelers beware-peak season is between September and February).
Leaving Surfing Turtle, there was no question that a part of me would forever reside on that sand beach, surrounded by golden sunsets, never-ending waves and the absolute best vibes a traveler could ask for.
